Help Be , Our Rescuer
Various animal populations are declining worldwide and it is the responsibility of man to ensure their continued survival. There are many wrongs that will happen if a species becomes extinct, thats why animal conservation is essential. There are three main reasons for animal conservation. One prevention of extinction, two interrupting the food chain, and three overpopulation of another species.
One of the main reason's for animal conservation is to stop a species from becoming extinct. The Giant panda is listed as an endangered animal with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The Giant Panda's population numbers are declining due to their habitats being destroyed by humans who are building roads, constructing buildings etc. The building of the roads is not only destroying the food in the panda’s habitat it is also separating the pandas from one another. Pandas are solitary and only meet up with each other three times a year for mating. If they can’t get to each other during these three days then they can’t reproduce, which means their numbers will continue to go down as no babies are produced.
Interrupting the food chain can kill other species as well as be threatening to the already endangered species. Humans are interrupting various food chains through construction, overfishing and through deforestation. While humans continue to cut down trees near a river in South America, pollution and mercury are seeping into the river water. Pollution and mercury can affect the fish and other marine life living in the river water. They may get sick and this can further contaminate the water and threaten marine life, such as crustaceans, living within it. This is not the only problem though. There are pink dolphins (A.K.A Amazon River Dolphins) living in these rivers. The pink dolphin is an endangered animal and the effects from pollution and mercury spillage into the river waters due to human deforestation are one of the many reasons for their increasing deaths. Another contributor to the decline of the pink dolphin is the propellers from boats using the river. The sound from the propellers disorientates the dolphins and they end up getting cut up by the propeller blades. The cuts get infected in the water from pollutants, chemicals and bacteria and this leads to their death.
When a species dies out in an area or becomes extinct, other species may overpopulate the area. The introduction of foxes in Australia by the British caused foxes to overpopulate the area and then become a nuisance to farmers. Foxes were then killed by the farmers (because they were killing the farmers sheep & chickens), which meant that the rabbit population increased greatly...creating another problem for farmers...too many rabbits! The rabbits then became a nuisance to farmers because they were eating the farmers crops. This is why the Rabbit Proof Fence was put up. Introduction of animals to a new environment can cause an imbalance in the ecosystem of that area.
Various animal populations are continuing to decline worldwide and it is the responsibility of all of us to ensure their continued survival by preventing their extinction. People need to be being aware of how their decisions and actions impact the environment. How creating roads and buildings impacts the animals living within that area. Monitoring the flow of food chains by ensuring that there is no over fishing or hunting in any one area. Making sure that no one animal population grows to large in numbers that impact the environment or the population of another animal species. If everyone was to monitor how man builds and develops various societies we could ensure that the many animal populations that are presently endangered begin to increase in numbers and therefore prevent their extinction. It is man's responsibility.

Wild Pets?
Should wild animals be kept as pets? A definition of a wild animal is a living creature that is not a plant, and is untamed or
domesticated, in a natural state. The definition for a domestic animal is any of various animals that have been tamed and made fit for a human environment. Many people choose to keep wild animals for pets. Why do they do it? Is it for their own benefit or for the animals? How can they care for them properly, and is it fair to the animal? These are questions that must be answered in order to make choices that are in the animals best interest. I personally believe that wild animals should not be kept as pets.
When people get a wild animal as a pet they do it because no one else has one. They may have dogs, cats and birds but not a tiger or a chimpanzee. When people buy these types of animals they struggle to provide the correct care for the animal. They may also struggle to provide the correct exercise for the animal. Owning a wild animal is a hard task because these animals need lots of space, and if you don't have that space they will become stressed and may act out violently. Sometimes people can not provide the correct diet that the animal needs because it is to expensive or it is just to hard to find. Imagine trying to feed a lion or a tiger every day, they need a huge amount of food daily. Some people also think that they are treating their animal well when they are actually treating them wrong. For example, Michael Jackson owned a chimp called Bubbles. Bubbles was treated by Michael like a human. He lived inside the house and was free roaming, he ate at the table with Michael and his family and he even wore clothes. This was bad for the chimp because he was in an environment that was totally wrong for him. Soon the Jackson's had to put him in a cage because he was beginning to hit people, be disobedient, and become aggressive. As Bubbles entered his teenage years he became strong and Michael could no longer control him. He became a danger to Michael and his family. Bubbles simply became to dominate in the house.
Michael Jackson's chimp had become to dominate because no one could stop him from doing what came natural to him. When he became to strong and had grown up, people started to see that he could be a dangerous threat. Animals like chimps are very active and need lots of exercise. When chimps are kept cramped in crates and cages they can become angry or stressed. If they get the chance they might actually attack and cause serious damage. This would be more likely if you were not the owner because the chimp doesn't know you. This happened to a women called Charla Nash in 2009. Her friend asked her to feed her chimp called Travis while she was away and one day as she opened the cage the chimp attacked her. This attack ended in tragedy. Luckily, Charla survived but she was seriously injured. Charla is now permanently blind, she has no nose and can only eat soft food. The chimp ripped her nose off along with her lips and ears. He also ripped off one hand and fingers on the other hand. I believe this happened because the chimp was in a small cage, was a strong male chimp, and he was not familiar with Charla. He felt threatened and therefor he attacked her. Could this tragedy have happened because the chimp was stressed? Because he didn't have the right care?
People who purchase wild animals as pets do not always take into consideration the right care or history of the animal. The history of the animal is very important because if it was caught in the wild then it wil most likely be scared, afraid, and it might possibly attack. Many animals are bred in captivity over many years from a breeder, which may possibly give it the extra safety touch, but there's no guarantee. Sometimes people by wild animals or exotic animals from the black market. Smuggling animals is worth approximately 10-20 billion US dollars, it comes second only to drug smuggling in the United States. A forty two year old man from South America smuggled birds in to Los Angeles Airport in his luggage and two slow loris' ( a type of primate) in his underwear. His friend was also caught with two Asian leopard cats in his backpack. This was terrible because these animals were caught wild and then taken away from their home and sold to people who might not know enough about the animal, might not know how to care for them correctly. People even kill animals so that people will buy the products taken from them, like horns, tusks even heads of animals. "When the buying stops the killing does too!"
Talking care of a wild animal is a tremendous challenge, to find it, to give it the right exercise and to care for it properly are extremely difficult things to do. There are very few people in the world who have the knowledge to care for a wild animal successfully. If a wild animal can not be in its natural habitat then the next best place for it to be is a reserve or sanctuary, or even a zoo... not at a regular person's home. Wild animals should not be kept as pets.

Zoos - Good or Bad?
Zoo Perth Australia, Koala Habitat
Zoo Beijing China, Brown Bear Habitat
which looks more animal friendly?
Zoos do better for animals than worse because they give threatened and endangered species a chance to live through conservation programs, they allow scientists to study the animals up close, provide rehabilitation for injured and sick animals, and educate the public. Unfortunately, not all zoos operate for these reasons. Some zoos operate for money rather than for the needs of the animals. In many countries there are organizations that make sure that zoos are open for the right reasons. In the U.S.A. there is the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, in Australia there is the Zoo Aquarium Association, and in Malaysia there is the South East Asian Zoos and Aquariums Association. These organizations believe in conservation, rehabilitation, and education.
Conservation is a very important part of a Zoo because it is helping endangered or threatened species by making their numbers higher. Over the years Orangutan numbers have been going down tremendously all over South East Asia due mainly to deforestation. The Orangutans have no home and limited proper food so they wander into near by villages or farmlands looking for food. Sometimes they are treated well but most times they are killed for eating the food. In Sumatra there is SOCP The Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme that researchers have made. This is where they rehabilitate orangutans back into the wild. The Perth Zoo in Australia have rehabilitated several orangutans into the wild through the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme after breeding them in their orangutan conservation program. Good zoos use conservation programmes so that they are helping species that need help.
There are many animals in the world that need help, that is why rehabilitation programs in zoos are very important. They can take in animals that need help and can help make them well again, they can show them ways to live again, how to hunt, and things like that. You can teach an animal so many things, even up to the point of how to walk again. I read a story and watched a documentary on some elephants in Northern Thailand that had been found near the Thai-Burma border. The people of an elephant center walked with the elephants from the Burmese border to their Thailand camp. The elephants had stepped on land mines and had bits of their feet and legs blown off. The people in the rehabilitation center wanted to help these elephants. The elephants had already adapted to walking on three legs but the rehabilitation center people contacted a university and asked if they could build a prosthetic leg for each elephant. This was a hard task because each elephant had a different circumference of their foot and they weighed different amounts. Therefore they had to build one specifically for each elephant. This task was accomplished and they taught the elephants how to walk again using all four legs. Some had trouble but some were walking straight away and didn't want to stop. This center gave so much to these elephants and gave them another chance to survive using all four legs using their rehabilitation program.
One thing that everyone needs to know about animals is " to know about them ", to learn about them through education. Education is very important for all animals from zoo animals to pets. People need to know what they are dealing with and what things are needed for these animals to survive. Good zoos are very good about educating people because they provide information on the animals. In front of the animal's enclosure is a little sign that says things about the animal, like where they are from , how big they can grow , what they eat, etc. Zoos also have Zoo keepers that give talks and share facts on the animals. There are also zoos keepers who just stand in front of the animals enclosure and explain things about the animal and give you the information on the animal. In Australia, during the school holidays, I went to the Perth Zoo for a workshop especially for kids. The keepers taught us so much about the animals and how to take care of them. We built play toys for sun bears, we fed the giraffes and touched the rhinos. I thought this was a very good way for children to get education on animals because lots of the kids might want to grow up to be Zoo Keepers or people involved in animal conservation or rehabilitation programmes etc. The kids learned more facts about the animals such as how the animal eats and why the animal's skin is like it is. This really helped me learn more about the animals which tells me that good Zoos are doing a good job with education programmes for children and adults.
I believe that Zoos mostly do good for animals because good zoos provide all the things I have mentioned- conservation, rehabilitation, and education. Bad zoos do not have these programmes or people that to do these. Bad zoos are usually purely run for money and to make a profit. With good zoos the money goes back into the keeping of the animals and then the worker's wages. I heard a story about an elephant who got a bone disease because she did not have enough space in her cage and the zoo gave her medicine so that you couldn't notice her limping. Eventually she died because they did not cure it. Other zoos don't have proper homes and have cement cages for the animal and that just eventually destroys the animal. Little national zoos have these problems unlike home zoos and things like that. As you can see the proper zoos are the good and healthy zoos.

A Fine Line
They are not invisible
they are true to our society.
We have to exhort the authority
about this aggressive generation.
With determination speak with authority
about animal cruelty.
Is this the truth that people are
chopping down these creatures rights
and freedom.
I believe strongly to declare my
invested opinion’s in this problem.
That animals all over the world
in people’s homes
get infected by different things.
These people do not know the harm
behind a kick to the side, no food or water
and a bad home. All these thing affect millions
of animals every year.
You can not ignore this. You can’t just ignore the authority.
You speak with it.
